All About Me!

In class today, we were tasked to write about ourselves, our inspirations, and why we study in university according to these seven questions:

Why did you choose to study your subject area?
I initially wished to go through an art and design course. We were suggested several universities in Singapore fit for design students, but we could not secure a spot. While we were university-searching I found myself designing less and writing more, so my parents and I agreed that I am much more capable of writing than drawing as I frequently wrote fiction as a hobby. We went for a Creative Writing and Media progression route, but during my foundation year I had some particular trouble with understanding poetry so I had my route changed to Film Studies. I figured it would be the best for me  because I wished to become a screenwriter than a general fiction writer.

Why did you choose this university?
I was first suggested a university in Singapore by a Year 12 teacher who has students that enrolled in it as part of a design course, Unfortunately, because of problems with some agencies my parents searched for universities in Malaysia. It was then we went to two different education fairs where different universities are representing and accepting new students. De Montfort was represented in both fairs and we looked over their courses of their diverse selection of courses. Not only that but Leicester was more suited to a Muslim student such as myself as it had a culturally diverse population who practice a number of religions.

What do you think you will gain from studying here?
I think I will gain some more insight into real fiction-writing skills. My initial skills were lacking, in my opinion, and I believe I have improved significantly thanks to my course. I also would gain some knowledge into proper screenwriting and filming techniques to fit into it. Knowledge of film-making techniques would give me more of an understanding to script writing as both are dependent of one another.

How do you think  a degree will help you find employment?
I am actually unsure when I first thought of this. I would think that somehow after I get a degree I would present my ideas to studios until I get accepted. My degree would make those studios recognise me as someone who has some idea of what they're doing. I honestly am completely unsure of all this but I think it would be a good guess.

What else will you do while you are here in preparation for finding work at the end of your course?
I haven't yet considered finding a job. At the moment, my parents would want me to focus more on my course while in foundation, but we may discuss employment once my foundation course ends.

Who is your inspiration in life and why?
This is a hard question as I take inspiration from many people that I can't put down one. One inspiration is a fictional character, Gentaro Kisaragi from Kamen Rider Fourze, who I think about to help cheer me up at times and to remind me of how a real hero should be as he is a very cheerful person, despite that I am far from him in terms of personality. One inspiration in my works is Greg Aronowitz, who worked on Power Rangers SPD; my first and favourite Power Rangers season. I loved the serious, yet kid-friendly tone of the show that fits well with the police theme, and it also inspired the premise and setting to my own series that I write in my scripts: People Saver.

How do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I hope to see myself in charge of my own television show in America and may work with bigger companies like Hasbro to make it into reality, such as Hasbro's Allspark Pictures. I may invite fellow friends in film-making to help with the production of the film. I hope that it will be successful and run for at least a year, and that it would be critically praised. I don't really wish for recognition for my work as much as the actors do, but I am fine with that so long as people like my work.
